PROFILE OF THE TAFO GOLF CLUB (CRIG)  – NEW TAFO – AKIM

Tafo Golf Course is situated at New Tafo –Akim  in the East Akim District of the Eastern Region of Ghana about 30 minutes’ drive from the regional capital Koforidua. This course which has been around since the early 1950 is one of the oldest golf courses in the country and is a property of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana.

This countryside course is a 9 hole course. The vegetation of the area makes the course almost always green throughout the year and it has a course par of 70. With its wide fairways the course might seem easy to play on the surface but usually is not the case. Most golfers believe it is one of the difficult courses in the country.  Holes 6 and 15 are famous for its intimidating nature and most golfers believe it is key to carding a good score on any day. This short Par 3 has a reputation for punishing golfers.

The annual tournament (The Tafo Open) is held on the first Friday of December in honour of Ghanaian farmers. Most of the opens have been sponsored by Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Volta River Authority (VRA) and for the last 15 years by UT Bank.   Goil, MTN, Okyehene, the Quest Tour have all hosted tournaments on this course alongside our usual monthly medals.
